Fashion icon Vs Fashion Idiot

Over the years it’s easy to point out people who have been fashion icons,
Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Twiggy, Debbie Harry. These women have helped shape the fashion Industry bringing fashion to the forefront. Today it seems the people with iconic status are the people who re doing things in their own way. I suppose its still the good, the bad and the ugly syndrome. More like the naturals, the try-hards and the down right desperate (Victoria Beckham anyone?).There are some people that ooze individuality from every pore in the body. Now if anyone was as lucky as me to have seen Beth Ditto from The gossip perform at Reading festival this year, then you probably walked way with an amazing sense of … well jealousy. She is possibly the coolest person on the planet and what makes her so cool? The fact she doesn’t give a fuck. Her dress was too small so she took it off! In fact you may be thinking why is this woman a style icon? She spends most of the time on stage not wearing clothes… because when she does… its experimental and non-conformist. It’s shocking and she’s not afraid of that. Beth even enjoys putting big names in the fashion industry in their place:
‘I love the idea of questioning people who are never questioned. This idea that Coco Chanel was a fucking goddess. I mean, she had a time and a place and it’s important to embrace history, but when people hold on to stuff, nothing new can happen, you know? I always get really sad about that.’
Beth even slated Kate Moss: ‘She looks boring as hell’, although I think this was before they became friends!

Victoria Beckham would probably do better if she had an attitude like Beth. She seems so desperate to be recognised as a player in the fashion industry. I don’t blame her though apart from David Beckham she doesn’t seem to have any talent anywhere else! She doesn’t create trends she follows them and makes a tit of herself in the process. Seriously Victoria it as a sad and desperate woman who tries to upstage a beloved dead princess while dressed as big bird from Sesame Street.

Today’s Style icons are the people who take the risks and don’t conform. They’re also the people that don’t idly sit with their mouths shut they have something to say. That’s not to say we’re going to like it. The fundamental differences between Beth Ditto and Victoria Beckham is that Beth says something by what she’s wearing, a statement. Victoria lets her clothes wear her.
